Workouts this week - Back to P90X
Last week my grandfather passed away, which threw me off my workouts. Although I did get in Plyo and YogaX in last week.
This week - I’m back on Phase I of P90X
Chest & Back - not keeping up with my workouts = WTF… So I managed to get through the first set of Chest & Back and felt nauseous. I tried to continue but couldn’t. What the hell? I’ve never not completed Chest & Back. My workouts have been sporadic though over the last 4 or 5 months, but damn….
Plyometrics - After not doing this workout for so long, I actually enjoy doing this workout. The thing is with Insanity, you end up taking breaks b/c the pace is so intense. Its really what you put into the workout. For me, P90X is so well rounded and I feel like you really get a good workout in (little to no breaks).
Shoulders & Arms - great workout - I’ve said it in the past, Tony and the gang show you how to blast your …….well shoulders and arms. Great routine and I definitely feel better after doing this workout.
YogaX - yes Yoga, I thought I’d never say this, but I actually missed you. I have noticed that since I have stopped doing Yoga, that I feel tight and less flexible. Especially when I’m playing with my son on the floor, at the playground, etc. Although I still feel like its a bit too long, its great getting back to doing this routine.
Legs & Back - What’s interesting is my pullup numbers have fallen 0-1-2 per grip, but not as much as I thought it would - so that’s good news. Again, although not my favorite routine, its a great routine.
KenpoX tomorrow
P90X - Plyometrics
Ok, so this spring/summer has been terrible in terms of working out. We had to go to the ER for my 22 month old son (104 fever). He’s okay, but it took a lot out of us. Then he had a sinus infection which he passed onto me and the wifey. My third sinus infection this year - WTF!!!
So I’ve been messing around with P90X and Insanity since finishing my 3rd round, but I haven’t been able to do it consistently. Its now been 3 weeks since my last workout. I decided to go back to basics. For this week I am easing back into workouts - so today’s workout was Plyometrics….lol - been around 5 months or so since I last completed this workout.
How’d I do? I think I did pretty well considering. I did modify a few moves. I felt my lungs burn a bit and I found myself thinking damn I did 3 rounds of this? I was looking forward to this workout. Tomorrow I will be doing YogaX, followed by KenpoX yep..I haven’t done these in over 5 months too.
P90X / Insanity - Chest, Shoulers, Tris and CardioX (Phase 2 - Week 2)
Chest, Shoulders and Tris - great workout, I need to get back into this workout…After 2-3 months off of P90X since my third round and jumping back into it, I need to realize that some of my numbers will be off. Yep, so what do you do, just give it your best for that day….but don’t stop. Next week will be better. LOL, I didn’t do that badly, but my numbers are not where they were since my last round.
CardioX - yeah so I’m not following the Beachbody P90X/Insanity Hybrid to the T. On the cardio days, I’ve decided to just mix it up b/w Insanity, P90X….and maybe even some TurboFire? CardioX was good - nice mix of yoga, kenpo, plyo and core. Good 43 min workout.
Tomorrow Legs & Back…
P90X / Insanity - Back and Biceps / Plyometric Cardio Circuit (Phase 2 - Week 2)
Short post today:
Back and Biceps - Man tough workout yesterday. I’m not sure what it is but lately I’ve been feeling a bit worn down. I should probably be eating a bit cleaner too. I’ve been slacking a bit on the diet.
Insanity Plyometric Cardio Circuit - um I don’t recommend eating cereal before doing to this program….lol. I usually have 2 egg whites and turkey bacon for breakfast. Today I decided to go with cereal. I made it through the workout, but definitely won’t be doing that again. This routine is definitely tough - gotta keep at it.
P90X / Insanity - Legs & Back (Phase 2 - Week 1)
Good workout today. I feel good, my legs feel stronger and my upper body feels pumped - sounds weird, maybe tighter? Even while typing this I can feel my lats…ah pull ups. This is a great routine, while doing Insanity - I never really felt like my legs do after this routine. Pluses and minuses for both programs, but I really do like the hybrid that I’m doing now.
My wife just completed Chalean Extreme and I got her TurboFire..so maybe next round I’ll incorporate those?
Have a great weekend peeps.
P90X / Insanity - AbripperX / Pure Cardio (Phase 2 - Week 1)
ARX this morning, I’ve been doing ARX before Insanity workouts and not after P90X resistance days. Man, I still have a hate/like feeling for ARX, but I know its good for me and I feel better after doing it.
Pure Cardio - whew….I feel like I’m starting to get better at keeping up with the Insanity crew. Do I still take breaks - yep, but I think I’m doing more and more before taking a break. BTW, I am not following Beachbody’s P90X/Insanity Hybrid schedule to the T. I think the hybrid schedule called for cardio power and resistance, but after yesterday’s chest/shoulder/tris - I was pretty spent. I’m sore, especially my tris…good feeling.
Tomorrow Legs & Back…joy.
P90X / Insanity - Chest, Shoulders and Triceps (Phase 2 - Week 1)
Its been over 3 months since I last did this workout. Um, can I say tough. Damn…I did pretty good, but I had to drop weight in some routines. Especially for any type of shoulder exercise. It was nice to get back into this routine. I’m not going to lie, about half way in I was like shite, what’s next…LOL. I had to sit and watch some of the moves first before doing the exercise, b/c I had forgotten the routine. Who knew, after 3 rounds back to back I thought I had all of these memorized.
I’m hoping that by next week, I’ll be able to increase the number of pushups and increase weight on lifting routines.
Tomorrow…hmmm Insanity Cardio Power and resistance or Pure Cardio?
P90X / Insanity - Back and Biceps & Plyometric Cardio Circuit (Phase 2)
Back and Biceps - its been over 3 months since last doing this workout. I did have to decrease weights by 5 - 10 lbs since the last time I did this routine. My pullups were on par for most (slight hit from recovery week).
Insanity Plyometric Cardio Circuit….man you take a week off and get back into this and its tough. I really do like the Insanity workouts. I know at some point the Hybrid schedule will call for the more intense insanity workouts…I’m scuurrred.
Tomorrow Chest, Shoulders and Tris..should be interesting, I haven’t done this one in a few months and this will be the first time doing this workout in the middle of the week.
P90X / Insanity CardioX (Phase 1 Recovery)
CardioX - this is only the second time I’ve ever done this workout. I have to tell you that I’m not too sure that I miss YogaX or KenpoX…lol. I think I’m am just bored with those routines, maybe its the pace? But yeah, cardiox has a bit of Yoga, kenpo and plyo. Plyo I didn’t mind at all. I didn’t think I would but I did work up a good sweat.
Tomorrow’s workout…hmmm, the hybrid calender calls for KenpoX..but I don’t think I will do this one. I’ll probably sub with an Insanity program or Core synergistics.
P90X / Insanity Pure Cardio (Phase 1 Recovery)
F@@@@##K - forgot how crucial Pure Cardio is…
So you do the warm up…get a break and then Shaun says “I’m nervous about what we are about to do”. Fu@k…. no more breaks for the remainder of the workout…what the what…15 minutes of straight workout.
Of course I took breaks….tough workout…said it before should be called pure hell. As time goes by, hopefully I’ll take less breaks.
Insanity will definitely make you sweat..thanks Shaun T for kicking my ass…f’er

P90X / Insanity Max Recovery (Phase 1 Recovery)
Wow, after yesterday I thought more of the same for today…NOT!…hehe. I found myself cursing Shaun T a lot during this workout. Although not at the intense pace of Insanity workouts this one is tough.
Tough Exercises (the ones that stuck out to me):
Low plie squat (pulses and stretch)
Military style push ups
Low plank to high plank (16, 8, 4 - then repeat - tough)
Not 100% sure what tomoorow’s workout is…stay tuned.
P90X / Insanity Core Cardio and Balance (Phase 1 Recovery)
Recovery week, this is my first time doing Insanity Core Cardio and Balance. I like it, it was a good workout, no repeat exercises during the warmup or the routine. Awesome. Good pace throughout. Toward the end of the routine there is a part that was pretty tough, if I remember correctly its the hip flexor burners and the shoulder burners in plie. If you’ve completed this routine you know what I’m talking about and if you haven’t you’ll see.
Tomorrow is Insanity Max Recovery. Happy 4th of July!
P90X / Insanity Legs & Back (Week 3 Phase 1)
Legs & Back today, not sure why but I always dread this routine. Its not really that bad. When I used to go to the gym, I always did the normal routine, squats, calf raises, leg extensions, etc. And for back…I used to do the seated row, lat pulls and that’s about it - lol. So yeah 60 minutes on just legs and back is tough. Even though I don’t love the routine, its a good one. Thanks Tony.
Recovery week next week..! Should be interesting with the hybrid.
P90X/Insanity - Insanity Cardio Power and Resistance (Week 3, Phase 1)
Holy Fu@k…lol, damn its been a while since I’ve done this workout. Maybe its b/c my workouts have been a bit sporadic over the last 2 months, but damn, it was tough today. It was a good workout though. I’ve said it before, but if you aren’t in decent shape, not sure Insanity is the first thing you should jump into. Its High Intensity Interval training, so you are constantly moving for a few minutes (with a 30 sec break) then you jump back into it.
Here’s the workout:
The warm up (3x, 30 seconds per move with a 30 second break at the end):
- Jog.
- Power Jacks
- Log Jumps
- 123 Heisman
- Butt Kicks
- High Knees.
- Vertical Jump
30 second break then Stretch (just under 7 minutes)
Workout Set 1 (3x, 30 seconds per move with a 30 second break at end of round):
At end of 3rd set Bonus move - “Tricep Dips”.
Workout Set 2 (3x, 30 seconds per move with a 30 second break at end of round):
- Hurdle Jumps
- Globe Jumps
- Moving Push Ups
- Floor Sprints
Finally you get to cool down and stretch
P90X / Insanity - Shoulders and Arms (Week 3 Phase 1)
Damn so Tumblr somehow lost my post….
Shoulder and Arms - So I received a comment on youtube about how I should focus on slowing down my reps on curls and pushups. Normally I don’t do my reps that quickly, but I guess for the video I just wanted to rip through them. Either way I decided to focus on slower, smoother reps. Worked up a pretty good sweat.
Tomorrow’s Insanity workout is Insanity Cardio Power and resistance and AbripperX (still don’t really like this workout, but its like Tony says “I hate it but I love it”.
The last couple of months have been sporadic in terms of workout (sinus infection and home repair), but I figure I’d post some progress photos.
After Shoulders and Arms
